Russell loves bees and so far his hives are doing really well.  Last spring he received his first three packages of bees and maintained three hives through the summer.  Our yield was 5 quarts of honey.  Not a lot, but some bee keepers don't harvest any honey the first year.  The bees have to build all of their honeycomb and have enough honey to eat through the winter.  So often times, the first year you don't get any honey.  But because of the awesomeness of my cute beekeeper husband we were able to enjoy a little bit of sweet yumminess.  Well, over the winter, one hive died and we were all pretty sad.  Russ received a new package of bees about a month ago and they are thriving.  Then, last week, he got a call from a lady in Belt, MT saying that she had a swarm of bees making their home in her wood box on her front porch.  Russ went out to her place and was able to transfer the bees into a hive box.  So this year, we will be maintaining four hives and we are  hopeful that there will be a plethera of honey at the end of summer!!!!

 This may sound funny, but we think honey bees are pretty cute!

Oh Rhubarb..............what yumminess you bring to my tummy!!!!

 Last weekend I harvested our first stalks of rhubarb and made delicious rhubarb crisp.  Today, I picked a whole bunch of stalks, froze three gallons, and made rhubarb cake in the dutch oven for our breakfast tomorrow.  I can hardly wait to savor this goodness!
