It started out as a tree in our neighborhood that the city was removing. Russ asked if they would donate the trunk for a church youth activity. Not really suppose to, but since it was for church, the guy said sure. Russ then took it out to a sawmill that is owned by a member of the church. He cut the boards and loaded them back up.
Many nights and saturdays were spent cutting, steam bending, shaping, nailing, glueing, sawing and assembling the handcart.
Finally it took shape. It's super sturdy. We sanded and then stained....finally something the women and children could participate in. The primary children and their leaders also made a really cute cover for the handcart.
At last, we went to Camp Rotary with the fabulous Great Falls Third ward and four handcarts. (three were borrowed from the Helena Stake.) The trek was a little more than a mile with two creek crossings, lots of snacks, and a delicious lunch. It turned out so well, this might have to be a bi-annual activity:) What else did you expect now that we have a handcart sitting in our driveway!!!!

Wow so amazing! That sounds like a wonderful experience!
ReplyDeleteOf course Russ built a handcart. Looks like y'all had a great time on the trip!
ReplyDeleteWow, Carmen....I feel kind of stupid. I didn't realize you have a blog or I would have been following it a long time ago. I wish you the best of luck with your adoption plans. I pray it goes quickly.
