I love canning, but by the end of September I'm wishing I never see a water bath canner again!!!
Green Beans: 5 Qts. (the garden didn't get enough water)
Cherries: 12 Qts. (a dear friend gave us a box of cherries from Flathead)
Pears: 19 Qts. (bought through Bountiful Baskets)
Salsa: 42 Qts.
Cherry Pie Filling: 32 pts. (mom and I did these together)
Spaghetti Sauce: 14 Qts.
Plums: 40 pts. (a friend and I canned together.
The plums turned out too soft, but sure make a snappy jello)
Apple sauce: 55 Qts.
Apple juice: 50 Qts.
Apple Butter: 41 pts.
Apple Pie Filling: 27 Qts.
Marinara Sauce: 7 Qts. and 31 pts.
Elk meat: 14 Qts.
Beets: 5 pts.
I was able to go to my mom's twice and have her help me with my canning. The second trip two of my sisters-in-law joined us. It's amazing the work four women can get done in two days!!!
We focused on everything apple and then some marinara sauce.
Four women = four stoves going (one in the house, three in the garage!)
I really enjoyed it. There is something magical about preserving large quantities of food and working with your family!
I canned elk meat this year. Russ was busy helping his brother pack out an elk while I was at my parents canning. Russ's brother gave him more than half of the elk, so I canned 14 Qts. It's going to be delicious!
Yesterday, I pulled the beets out of the garden and canned them. Out of everything I can, I think beets are the prettiest!
Last night, Russ asked if he could put the canner away downstairs. I sighed and said, "sure, I'll probably just get it out again tomorrow!" And maybe I would, but I'm out of jars:)
Oh my, makes me tired just looking at the pictures! Good work though!!
