On Monday, November 26, we met Samuel and Ruth. We were excited and a little bit nervous. We weren't sure what to expect. When we arrived at the orphanage we were asked to sit under a tree and wait. We were waiting for two new branches to be added to our family tree.
Samuel wasn't sure about us. The first day he didn't smile, he didn't speak, he had a bit of a scowl as he tried to figure us out.
Ruth was surprisingly small and very quiet, yet beautiful.
We couldn't stop smiling.
We tried to play with the children a little, but mostly we just held them, trying to make up for lost time and time yet to be lost.
In Ghana, the children are carried on the backs of their care takers. We even saw children carrying babies this way. They simply wrap a piece of cloth under the baby's bum and tie or wrap it in front. The babies certainly seem to enjoy it. I look forward to being able to carry my babies this way. I just hope they come home before they are too big!
